Hi There I've been trying to do something like this for many years now. I really hope these notes help someone!. I'll try and post/document some tips and tricks that i apparently learnt over some painstaking mad hours.
Here's one.
Issue: I got myself a BBNL broadband (Bangalore) connection and also wanted to share the connection that was connected to my desktop (Ethernet) with my smartphone, Tab and Laptop. Everytime i tried connecting there was this annoying LAN authentication of the BBNL cable net connection and ofcourse the BBNL server wouldn't let me in after i connected the cablenet to my Dlink
This is what i did.
I bought a Dlink DIR -605L costing about 1700Rs.
I first connected the RJ45 cable provided by the provider ISP BBNL to the yellow RJ45 port.
I then connected my RJ45 cable in the (Black) slot provided on the router to the port on the desktop.
Put on the router and i assume your PC is on too :D
Type in the URL on the back of the router in my case 192.168.0.1-You may refer the manual to get the router settings going.
Now the tricky part: Internet status would show disconnected.
This is what needs to be done.Go to the advance tab and then internet connection.
Select the PPPoE (Username/Password) option
Key in your username and password provided by the service provider
Service name will be blank
MAC Address: Click on Copy your PC's MAC address
Choose enter DNS manually and type in 8.8.8.8 in the Primary DNS
Connection mode will be set to always. Then you obviously would want to save settings and Reboot the router.
There you go-It worked for me!!! Leave your comments!!
If you would want the wifi settings please do let me know.
Note: please don't get yourself a ADSL router even if you do you should have a yellow RJ45 input Ethernet/internet port.
Regards,
Paul
